Here is one more coastal recipe which we make at home every other day.It's My mom's recipe and I love it.
This Tangy,little spicy Okra/Bhindi masala is very easy to make and very delicious.It does not need much preparation and very common ingredients.Here we use coconut to make the masala.We use coconut for almost all dishes :).

I do not like bhindi, when it becomes soggy.Here you will not have any sliminess of okra.Even Bhindi haters will love this dish.Trust me on this.

This dish is tangy due to tamarind. If you do not like more of it, then reduce the Tamarind juice quantity.Even you can adjust spice levels according to your choice.
You can serve this with rotis or chapatis or with simple rice and dal or any rice and curry. This goes with everything.It is that yummy. All my friends like this,whenever I take it to the office :).In fact, my friends like all coastal/Mangalore(that is what they call :) Recipes.

Okra/LadyFinger/Bhindi Sukha Masala with Coconut
Serves: 3-4


200 gms Bhindi/Okra/Lady Finger(15-20 numbers approx)
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
6-8 Cloves Garlic (Crushed)
1 Sprig Curry Leaves
1/2 Medium Onion cut lengthwise
Salt to taste
2 Tbsp Oil

To Grind:
3/4 Cup grated Coconut
1/4 tsp Turmeric
5 Red Chillies
2 tsp Coriander seeds
1/4 tsp Fenugreek/Methi seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 Medium Onion
4 Cloves Garlic
3 Tbsp Tamarind Juice/Tamarind Paste

1.Wash the Okra/Bhindi and wipe them or allow them to dry.Discard both ends and cut remaining into medium pieces.Keep aside.
2.Keep all the ingredients ready.
3.Grind and make a fine paste of all ingredients under 'To Grind' except Coconut.Add little water if required.
4.Now add Coconut to the paste and Grind it to make coarse paste.Coconut need not be very fine.
[Add very little water].Masala should be thick.

5.Take a heavy bottom pan and add Oil. When hot add Mustard seeds. When it crackles add crushed garlic and saute for 30 seconds.
6.Now add curry leaves and saute for 10 seconds and add onion and saute till it turns brown.
7.Now add the ground masala from step 4 and cook for 5 minutes.Add little water if required.Masala should not be liquid.
8.Finally add Ladyfinger/Okra and salt. and gently mix with masala and cook covered.In between add little water if masala is sticking to the bottom.
9.Cook Covered till okras are done and gravy becomes thick.
10.Serve Hot with Dal,Rice or any flat bread of your choice and enjoy.
