We can make this dish using coconut or without coconut. Here I am making Chana Masala without coconut. It is absolutely mouth watering dish. It will go with any Indian breads or even with rice.
I made kulcha along with this. Awesome combination. Just loved it.
1 cup Chana
2 cup water
1 tsp salt
Dry Roast and Powder:
1/2 inch Cinnamon
1 tsp Cumin Seeds (jeera)
1 tsp Coriander Seeds (dhania)
1 tsp Fennel Seeds (saunf)
2 Black Cardamoms/Elaichi
2 Dry Red Chilli
Saute and Paste:
2 tsp Oil
3 medium Tomatoes(chopped roughly)
1 medium Onion(chopped roughly)
1 tsp Ginger grated or Paste
6 cloves Garlic
2 tsp Oil
1 medium Onion
1.5 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1/2 tsp Garam masala
1 tsp Lemon juice or amchur powder/dry mango powder
1/2 cup Water
Salt - to taste
Coriander leaves to garnish
1.Soak the Chana overnight and Pressure cook with water and salt for 5 to 6 whistles.
If u are not using Pressure cooker then cook till it is soft.Keep the chana along with water in separate bowl.
2.Meanwhile Dry roast all the ingredients under "Dry Roast and Powder" and powder it and keep aside.
3.Heat Oil in a wide pan. Add Onion,Tomato and ginger,garlic. saute till tomato becomes soft. Switch off and make a paste of this and keep aside.
4.Heat the oil in pressure cooker and add onion. Saute till onion becomes brown.
5.Now add the paste got in step 3 and saute for a minute.
6.Add the dry roasted powder got in step 2 and Red Chilly and garam masala and mix well.
7.Now add chana along with water and salt and pressure cook again for 1 whistle.
8.Once done add water if required and add amchur/mango powder if using and cook till desired consistency is reached. It will thicken bit after cooling.
9.Add lime juice while serving and garnish with corainder leaves.
10.Serve with any bread of your choice(I made kulcha to go with it ) or with rice.
